Exercise is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. It is important for maintaining overall fitness and can help to manage weight loss and lower the risk of many health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. It is important to try to do an average of 30minutes of physical exercise at least 5 days a week. Aerobics Avenue is hear to try to make that a little easier for you by giving you the opportunity to take part in our aerobics classes in the comfort of your home. On top of that we will regularly include short articles with advice and healthy tips that you may find helpful. HOW TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO EXERCISE It’s all good having a great exercise regime, a diet that really works for you and knowing all there is to know about living a healthy lifestyle. But what happens when you just cannot be bothered to do it? How do you find the motivation to actually get up and do an aerobics class when the sofa looks so warm and cozy. How is it possible to enjoy a rice cake when your partners chocolate fudge cheesecake is winking at you every time you open the fridge? There is all this talk going around about making exercise a part of your lifestyle and turning it into a habit. But all of this takes motivation. Unfortunately not all of us are health fanatics with the perfect body and a so called high metabolism, we can’t all run a mini marathon before we go to work and still be able to function like able bodied adults without the need for a full body massage and reclining chair. Last month I gave you some tips on how to add exercise to your lifestyle, now I am going to try to give you some tips on how to motivate yourself towards having that healthy lifestyle. Now I am fully aware that not all of these ideas are going to be right for everyone, but if you cannot do all of them, then at least try one and then send us a short email letting us know how you got on. GET YOURSELF A WORKOUT PARTNER OR FORM A WORKOUT TEAM I am sure you have heard this one before and I am sure many of you have even tried in the past to get a good workout partner. Having a workout partner does definitely have its benefits if you need someone who has similar goals to you and can understand and empathize with you. However this still will not work unless you have the motivation to meet up in the first place, because unreliable workout partners can end a partnership before it even begins. A solution to this can be to get yourself several workout partners and form what can be seen as a workout team. The more people you have pushing you to get up and go to the gym or do that Aerobics Avenue workout the harder it will be for you to say no. REWARD YOURSELF Set yourself some realistic goals. Once you have done this reward yourself for achieving these goals, for example after you have completed a full weeks exercise regime treat yourself. If you are someone who doesn’t have the will power to wait until the goal has been achieved before treating yourself, give someone else the task of controlling the treats. Speak to someone close to you that could be your partner, your Mum or even a close friend. Write down a list of rewards on strips of paper and put it into a box. Every time you achieve one of your goals get that person to pull a piece of paper out of the box and reward you with that particular treat. Alternatively if you have managed to set up a workout team as explained above treat each other or share a treat between you. SIGN UP TO DO A 5K RUN Every year there are dozens of 5k walks, runs and even treks held in the name of charity. Signing up achieves two goals, firstly you get to raise some money for charity and secondly once you have made that commitment to do the race, you will have to train for it. BUY CLOTHES IN A SMALLER SIZE If one of your goals is to lose weight buy a pair of jeans one size too small. That way unless you like wasting your money you will need to lose the weight in order to fit into them.
